Artist Statement
My work comes out of a deep love of history, narrative, and craft. I draw inspiration from fragmented memories and traditions, both personal and collective, forgotten and imagined, and find new connections and relative truths through a process of deconstruction and re-contextualized materialization. I am interested in the unexpected results that occur when repurposing the familiar in an altered state. My materials of choice exemplify my conceptual intentions, using fabric and fiber to create sculpture and installations that defy their natural characteristics and surroundings, presenting the fragile as indestructible, and viewing disintegration as the foundation for re-creation.
